What is Lentinan Extract?
High-value bioactive Lentinan Extract is a high-quality polysaccharide, which is produced semi-synthetically by extraction of the fruiting body of Lentinula edodes, popularly referred to as the shiitake mushroom. It is mainly composed of β-(1→3)-glucan with β-(1→6) branches and is normally extracted and purified by a clean water one and ethanol precipitation method to achieve the greatest purity and product uniformity. This extract is commonly known due to its functional characteristics in health ingredients, nutraceuticals, and functional food. It is a confirmed ingredient solution that is high on solubility, along with compatibility with formulations, and stable during processing. It sometimes features in dietary supplements, functional beverages, and elevated food formulations where immune-supporting, or wellness-positioned products are under development. In addition, structural and functional stability will make it an appropriate option for companies interested in clean-label, plant-based polysaccharides that have a long history of application with Eastern health traditions.

Working Principle
The most significant effect of Shiitake Mushroom Extract is that it affects the body's immune reaction by binding to the receptors of the immune cells. Being a high-molecular-weight β-glucan, lentinan does not pass directly into the blood circulation; it generates its effects at the level of the gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT), where it activates particular pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), e.g., Dectin-1 and Toll-like receptors on macrophages, dendritic cells, and other cells involved in the immune system. The result of this binding is a cascade of cellular signals that increase the phagocytic capacity and facilitate cytokine equilibrium, resulting in the defense of natural killer cells and T-cells, which also contributes to an overall empowered and more receptive immune system. Its fundamental activity is the immunomodulation property, and it has the ability to facilitate and balance immune defense systems and other immunological processes; thus, it is an important component of the health-preventative compounds in many industries.
Process
1. Raw Material Selection and Preparation
The mushroom fruiting bodies of Lentinula edodes are carefully chosen and are collected in controlled growth conditions. The mushrooms are cleaned, dried, and ground into a coarse powder in order to make the extraction take place with ease.
2. Hot Water Extraction
The mushroom mush material is crushed, and hot water is used in repeated binds, normally between 90-100 °C. This action will release water-soluble polysaccharides such as lentinan in the solution.
3. Filtration and Centrifugation
The filtration of the extract is achieved to eliminate insoluble fibers and residues of mushrooms. Polysaccharide-rich supernatant presents a clear separation of mixtures influenced by centrifugation.
4. Concentration
The resulting filtrate is subsequently concentrated under reduced pressure with the help of vacuum evaporation in order to decrease the volume of the extract, but simultaneously in order to keep the bioactive components.
5. Ethanol Precipitation
The concentrated extract (this should contain food-grade ethanol at a ratio of 4:1 or 5:1, depending on the extract) is then added; this causes the precipitation of the polysaccharides solution. The mixture is left to stand for several hours so as to make sure the precipitation is complete.
6. Polysaccharide Collection and Washing
It precipitate is all quantified on a centrifuge or a filtration device, and using ethanol, impurities by way of proteins, pigments, as well as leftover sugars are elucidated.
7. Drying (Spray Drying or Freeze Drying)
Depending on the product specification of the manufacturer, the purified lentinan may also be spray dried when throughput is the priority factor or freeze-dried (freeze drying) when structural integrity and bioactivity are the priority factors.
8. Powder Milling and Sieving
Shiitake Mushroom Extract Powder is purified as a fine powder and sieved to obtain uniform particle sizes, which can be used in a mixture or capsules.
9. Quality Control and Packaging
The end powder is subjected to quality tests such as the content of polysaccharides, moisture, heavy metals, microbial loading, as well as solubility. Then it is packed as a food grade or pharmaceutical grade pack as per the requirements of the client.

Suitable For
Shiitake Mycelium Extract is most appropriate in the formulations with individuals pursuing natural immune systems, with stressful lifestyles, environmental changes, and aging with immune issues. It is often added into dietary supplements and functional food products targeted to a health conscious or medical professionals, or in the category of wellness brands that want to provide plant-based products with immune-modulating effects. It fits well into the vegan, clean-label, and allergen-free formulations and can be used on a wider demographic customer base in the global health products market.
