What is Brahmi Extract?
Brahmi Extract, an advanced botanical raw material principally sourced from Bacopa monnieri, is a key ingredient for the global nutraceutical and functional wellness markets. This standardized extract, traditionally and scientifically proven, is formulated to deliver targeted levels of bacosides, the pivotal bioactive saponins that are the key ingredients formulators seek to enhance memory, cognition, and brain resilience. It is a flexible, clean-label ingredient for enterprise-scale manufacturers, which easily blends into high-quality dietary supplements to support memory, alertness, and concentration. Extraction and purification processes ensure that the powder form is of high purity and free-flowing with no contamination by heavy metals or microorganisms according to international standards. Through the use of this botanical, companies can create innovative "smart" products and adaptogenic mixtures to meet the growing market demand for scientifically supported botanical ingredients. As a clear and traceable product, it offers the technical specifications for commercial-scale manufacturing and is in line with today's market trend for whole, non-synthetic nutritional supplementation.

Features
Technically known for its proprietary phytochemical composition and physical stability, Bacopa Monnieri Extract has unique advantages for multi-ingredient formulations. The extract is chemically characterized by its rich content of dammarane-type triterpenoid saponins (Bacosides A and B), which demonstrate good thermal stability during processing steps such as encapsulation and tableting. These markers are usually standardized by HPLC to ensure consistency between batches, which provides formulators with consistent potency to ensure a successful multi-ingredient stack. Physically, the extract is an odourless, hygroscopic fine powder in the typical brownish-yellow colour with a particular mesh size (typically 80-100 mesh) for optimal flow properties and minimal clumping in high-speed processing for tableting. For those formulators interested in the use of liquid delivery systems, high-quality extract has good dispersibility and solubility in water, but due to its bitter taste profile, it may require masking agents or the use of taste-balancing technology to ensure palatability of the final product. Additionally, its low moisture content (usually less than 5%) and high bulk density render it highly compressible and suitable for direct compression and hard-shell filling, which allows for minimal wastage of active ingredients and optimal stability of the finished product with respect to its shelf-life.
How to Store Properly?
1. Controlled Atmospheric Moisture
The extract is hygroscopic, which means that it will absorb moisture, potentially causing caking and/or destruction of the bacosides. For optimal stability, it's important to store the product in its original, airtight drums. When the drums are opened for sampling and production, the inner liners (food-grade PE) need to be immediately resealed to avoid moisture.
2. Thermal Regulation and Temperature Stability
The extract should be stored in a cool warehouse environment, preferably with a temperature range of 15-25°C. High temperatures over time can affect the powder's flowability and promote oxidation of plant constituents. Do not store near sources of heat, such as loading bays.
3. Photostability and Light Protection
Direct exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light can lead to the degradation of beneficial saponins and further discolour the powder. Our bulk packaging is opaque, but it's recommended to store the product in a dark environment (not in direct sunlight) to maintain the chemical composition until formulation.
4. Isolation from Volatile Substances
Botanical extracts can be easily contaminated and are prone to absorbing odors. Keep the drums in a clean, separate storage area away from strong-smelling chemicals and/or materials. This will help avoid any off-flavours or odours in the Bacopa Monnieri Extract Powder that are used in sensitive products, such as functional beverages or chewables.
5. Structured Pallet Management
The drums should be on pallets and not sitting on the ground to allow for sufficient airflow and avoid wicking. A First-In, First-Out (FIFO) inventory management practice is ideal to ensure the product is used within its optimum retest period to ensure maximum potency for commercial scale-up.

Recommended Usage
For companies incorporating Bacopa Monnieri Brahmi Extract into their formulations, formulation and blending techniques are crucial to ensure a uniform and stable product in the final product, regardless of the delivery system. For solid formulations such as hard-shell capsules, the extract's small particle size needs to be complemented with high-quality flow agents such as microcrystalline cellulose or magnesium stearate, to avoid bridging in the hopper and maintain constant fill weight. When formulating tablets, formulators should consider direct compression (if possible) to leverage the extract's inherent density, but also control the level of compression to prevent the bacoside matrix from fragmenting. For liquid formulations, such as botanical shots and syrups, the extract should be pre-dispersed in an inert carrier or high-shear mixed to enable full suspension; due to the extract's earthy taste, it is common practice in the industry to include natural masking agents or citric acid to adjust pH for the best taste and mouthfeel. Regardless of the application, it is best to include the extract during the dry mix (for solid formulations) or final blend (for liquids) to avoid extended exposure to excessive shear and/or temperature. Through process control and adoption of standard inclusion rates for a given concentration of bacosides in the raw material, enterprise formulators can ensure potency and stability in their cognitive support products.
