Main Ingredients
Marigold Flower Lutein Oil has the naturally occurring xanthophyll carotenoid as its primary active ingredient, which is obtained from Tagetes erecta (marigold flowers). The eye is highly functional in its role in ensuring the visual performance and prevention of oxidative stress due to exposure to environmental hazards like blue light. It is used in its free form in this type of oil, so it shows better absorption in the body and high bioavailability. In the extract, there may also be traces of related carotenoids like zeaxanthin that naturally coexist with it in the petals of the marigold and increase its functions. Nevertheless, the most important and active compound in the formula is lutein. The given product contains a high level and purity, guaranteeing the product's efficiency when used in the more premium form of health supplements, especially those concerning eye health, digital wellness, and antioxidant aid.
Process
1. Raw Material Selection and Preparation
According to the selection, dried marigold (Tagetes erecta) flowers are high-quality and high-lutein-rich. The petals are washed and then beaten up to make a fine powder to increase the contact area in which the extraction is done.
2. Saponification (if starting from lutein esters)
In case the raw material is lutein esterified, then a saponification recovery step of a mild alkaline solution is necessary to break the esters, resulting in free lutein, which is more readily available in the body.
3. Solvent Extraction
The carotenoids are extracted by using hexane or ethanol as food-grade solvents after separating the plant material. This is the process that removes it and other lipophilic compounds from the biomass.
4. Filtration and Concentration
After being filtered and removed to take care of any soluble residue, the crude extract is concentrated at reduced pressure to eliminate any excess solvent and to maintain the stability of the active compounds.
5. Purification and Standardization
It is purified even more (usually via molecular distillation or chromatography), to eliminate impurities and to standardize the presence up to a specific degree (e.g., 5, 10, 20%).
6. Oil Blending and Homogenization
Recrystallized lutein is dissolved in an appropriate carrier oil, usually sunflower oil, safflower oil, or other vegetable oils appropriate to food production. To promote stability, additives such as antioxidants, such as tocopherols, can be added.
7. Quality Control and Testing
All the batches are analyzed in terms of the concentration, residual solvents, heavy metals, microbiological parameters, and the quality of oil to correspond to the regulatory and safety standards.
8. Filling and Packaging
The completed Lutein Oil is transferred to food-grade, light-resistant bottles, filled in a nitrogen or other inert gas environment to avoid oxidation. It is then packaged, marked, and kept in store to sell in bulk.
Suitable For
Lutein Essential Oil is mainly intended to be incorporated in products aimed at patients interested in maintaining healthy eyesight and the comfort of the eyes in the current digital and older-aged societies. It can be particularly used in formulations that target adults who have a long experience with being exposed to screens and those who are middle-aged and older, wishing to prevent eye health issues. It is also suitable for products that deal with overall antioxidant support and promotion of wellness, reinforced by the current market needs of natural and plant-based supplements.
